David Bowie's new album "★" pronounced "Blackstar" is reportedly out on Jan. 8, which is Bowie's sixty-ninth birthday, according to Spin.

In 2014, Bowie's twenty fifth album began to take shape when the musician gathered longtime producer Tony Visconti and drummer Zack Alford to cut some demos at Magic Shop, a recording studio.

Visconti shared some thoughts on David Bowie's new album, "Blackstar." The music producer revealed that Bowie wanted to create a sound that deviated from his usual style.

"We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn't do a straight-up hip-hop record," said Visconti to Rolling Stone. "He threw everything on there, and that's exactly what we wanted to do. The goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock'n'roll."

"LCD Soundsystem" founder, James Murphy is also part of the album, playing percussion on two tracks. Murphy supposedly had a more prominent role in the record, but had projects to go off to, added Visconti, cited by The Guardian.

"Blackstar," a haunting song and the album's title track, was supposed to be 10 minutes long. It began as two separate tunes before Visconti and Bowie brought them together.

The original version was longer than 11 minutes but was cut to nine minutes and 57 seconds because iTunes does not post singles that go over the 10-minute mark.

"It's total b*llsh*t," said a laughing Visconti. "But David was adamant it be the single, and he didn't want both an album version and a single version, since that gets confusing."

Bandmate Donny McCaslin claims the song is about ISIS, revealed Pitchfork. Visconti however, said he did not know the backstory of the song.

Other songs included in David Bowie's new album are previously released song,"Tis a Pity She Was a Whore", "I Can't Give Everything Away", "Girl Loves Me" and "Dollar Days," which David Bowie wrote in the studio.
