‘Animal Crossing’ Makes It To 2021 Video Game Hall of Fame
Recently, the inductees of the 2021 Video Game Hall of Fame have been recently announced by The Strong, a self-described "national museum of play" based in Rochester, New York.
One of the top video game titles that made it to the Hall of Fame is "Animal Crossing." The other games included are "Star Craft," "Microsoft Flight Simulator," and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"
In another larger field, the following game titles also made it to the list: "Centipede," "Bejeweled," "King's Quest," and "Minecraft.
"Anyone may nominate a game to the World Video Game Hall of Fame. Final selections are made on the advice of journalists, scholars, and other individuals familiar with the history of video games and their role in society." The Strong stated when regarded to the selection process of the video game franchises and titles.
The Strong established the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2015, in which the first batch of games that made it to the list was: "Pong," "Pac-Man," "Super Mario Bros.," "Tetris," "Doom, and "World of Warcraft." In 2016, the following games that were added were: "Sonic The Hedgehog," "The Legend of Zelda," "Grand Theft Auto III," "Space Invaders," "The Sims," and "The Oregon Trail." 2017 had "Halo: Combat Evolved," "Pokemon Red and Green," "Donkey Kong," and "Street Fighter II." 2018 had "Tomb Raider," "John Madden Football," "Spacewar!", and "Final Fantasy VII." 2019 had "Microsoft Windows Solitaire," "Super Mario Kart," and "Colossal Cave Adventure."
The recent game from the "Animal Crossing" franchise, "Animal Crossing: New Horizons," was supposed to be released in 2019 but was delayed to March 2020. On its first week alone, it sold 1.88 million copies of the game. As of March of this year, the game has sold 32.63 million copies. The game was such a huge success that it was the perfect game to get into and have fun, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
