Twitter Outs Tip Jar Test Feature
If you have noticed, Twitter has been on a roll with their new feature releases lately. On Thursday May 6, 2021, Twitter announced a new way for users to send and receive payments via the social media platform.
The feature called Tip Jar allows users to add an icon to their profile page that lists various payment services that people can click to send money.
Esther Crawford, a Senior Product Manager of Twitter, said in a statement, "Tip Jar is an easy way to support the incredible voices that make up the conversation on Twitter. This is a first step in our work to create new ways for people to receive and show support on Twitter - with money."
Twitter users would be allowed to link their Twitter accounts to their Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal, and Venmo accounts. Twitter will not take a share of any funds transferred through the Tip Jar. Only a small number of people using Twitter in English can add Tip Jar to their profiles as of the moment. Users on Android will be able to transfer money via Twitter's Clubhouse-like Spaces.
Twitter is a social networking platform that allows users to microblog through tweets. Tweets used to be only limited to 140 characters, until the character capacity was doubled back in 2017. Many users have grown accustomed to the lake of microblogging style of Twitter, rather than the ocean of Facebook.
Twitter recently removed the cropping of image previews in their feed for Android and iOS, read more about it here.
If you are wondering if Tip Jar is now available for your Twitter account, check out the official blog from Crawford on what it is and how to set it up. Take note that the feature is not yet available to everyone, as of this writing.
