Feature Of Timestamped Comments Is YouTube’s Newest Test Feature
The popular video streaming platform YouTube is testing a new feature: time-related comments.
Timestamped comments are comments that are linked with a specific part of the video. An example of this is comments made during a live-stream video. Remarks that have been made at a certain portion of the stream will be indicated. The feature can come in helpful when commenting on the highlight of a video.
Currently, YouTube users can manually type the specific time of the video that they would want to comment on. This feature has also been available in the music platform SoundCloud. Having a timestamped comment built into the platform allows uploaders to know which specific part of their video attracted the most attention. They may take the data and utilize it for analysis to improve future videos or simply use it to further engage in fan-channel interaction.
"We're currently testing a new feature that allows you to view comments timed to the exact moment you're watching in a video. This experiment is available on some videos to a small group of people and we'll consider rolling this out more broadly based on feedback," YouTube added the statement last April 29, 2021.
The feature is currently in its testing phase, where there is no guarantee that all experiments will make it a permanent part of the platform.
To check if the feature is available to you, use the YouTube App on Android or iOS. Click a video, enter the Comments section and tap the Sort button to choose "Timed Beta." As of the moment, there is no word on whether the beta feature is or will become available on web browsers used in Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, or Linux.
