Samsung Expected To Regain Top Spot In Q1 Smartphone Production
Samsung Electronics Co. is poised to reclaim the number 1 spot in the world in terms of smartphone production for the first quarter of 2021.
A report from The Korea Herald shows that the South Korean multinational electronics company is targeting to produce 62 million smartphones from January to March this year. The said figures account for 18.1 percent of smartphone production on a global scale.
Samsung has also released its new flagship smartphone - the Galaxy S21 series - which is believed to have been dominating the market since January.
"Moving to the first quarter of 2021, Samsung has released the new lineup of its flagship Galaxy S21 series in advance so as to maintain its market share in the high-end segment," TrendForce quipped.
"At the same time, Samsung has adopted promotional pricing to boost the sales of its latest devices," it added.
On the other hand, Apple Inc., the leading producer of smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2020, is said to be dropping to the second spot for only producing around 54 million units.
TrendForce claimed that the production of the United States tech giant this first quarter is only 15.8 percent in the market share.
China's Xiaomi Corp. and Oppo are projected to land on the third and fourth spots, respectively. The former has a market share of 15.2 percent, while the latter has a share of 15.1 percent.
TrendForce stated that the production of smartphones usually drops in the first quarter because the demand would collapse during the preceding year's fourth quarter, specifically after the peak-season level.
With regards to the annual ranking of smartphone production, Samsung is projected to emerge on top again this 2021. However, TrendForce said that it would not be easy for the tech giant to dominate this year since there are tech companies from other countries that will challenge them.
