TREASURE Announced As 2020 Rookie K-pop Boy Group By Gaon
TREASURE has set a record on the Gaon Charts after it was revealed that the Kpop band has officially reached 1,000,000 copies sold for their full-length album released in January 2021, "The First Step: Treasure Effect."
Gaon crowned the YG Artist as the 2020 Rookie Kpop Boy Band Million Seller after the said milestone was reached.
The boy band, which debuted last year, has not even reached six months, but they already broke records. TREASURE is the first YG Artist to reach this goal and is the fourth's fastest 4th generation Kpop boy group to reach this.
In 2019 the band was formed through the reality-survival program YG Treasure Box. The boy band debuted with 12 members, including Choi Hyun-suk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Mashihi, Yoon Jae-hyuk, Asahi, Bang Ye-dam, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeong woo, and So Jung-hwan.
In August 2020, TREASURE put out their first album, "The First Step: Chapter One," which saw the band rise to global fame immediately. This was followed by "The First Step: Chapter Two" album release in September. The last chapter was then released in November 2020, which solidified the group's prowess.
Upon their debut, they were immediately considered to be one of the most commercially successful male Kpop bands in history.
In just the span of six months, TREASURE charted on Billboard's Social 50 and earned numerous awards, such as "Rookie Artist of the Year" at the 35th Golden Disc Award, as well as "Best New Male Artist" and "Worldwide Fans' Choice" at the Mnet Asian Awards in 2020.
Currently, the group is poised to make its debut in Japan this coming month. YG Entertainment announced that TREASURE would be releasing their debut album in Japan on March 31 after the success of their Japanese single "Beautiful," which was used on the Japanese anime series "Black Clover."
