(G)I-DLE Is First 4th-Generation Idol Group To Debut At #1 On Melon Chart
Multinational idol girl group (G)I-DLE has started the new year right as they just became the first fourth-generation idol group to debut at number 1 on South Korea's Melon Chart with their new song "HWAA."
Furthermore, the title track is also one out of only three fourth-generation girl group songs to ever reach the top spot on Melon Realtime. The other two songs being IZ*ONE's "Fiesta" and "Secret Story of the Swan."
Just this Monday, the KPop sextet dropped their fourth mini-album titled "I burn," where the Melon Chart-topping "HWAA" is the second track. The lead single was also given its own visual along with the EP's release.
The record-breaking (G)I-DLE song was written and co-produced by leader Soyeon. Reportedly, the track was inspired by traditional Korean and East Asian culture. It also reflects what happens after a break-up, specifically, the part where one moves forward and decides to leave all painful memories behind.
"HWAA" was directly connected to a reworked version of their 2018 digital single "HANN (Alone in winter)," which also served as the opening track of the record.
Moreover, "I burn" is described by (G)I-DLE as an account of the emotions felt "in the process of regaining happiness after separation."
The six-track mini-album includes self-written and self-produced tracks by the idol group via CUBE Entertainment and Republic Records. It also has three concept versions, namely: Winter, Flower, and Fire - all of which come with a sleeve, booklet, CD, lyrics, mini-poster, postcard, photo card, lucky card, and sticker.
Last August 2020, (G)I-DLE also broke personal records after gaining 17.6 million YouTube views in the span of 24 hours for the music video of their tropical hit, "DUMDi DUMDi." The song also ended up being their most-awarded song on music shows that year with a total of six wins, including double crowns on Show Champion, M Countdown, and Inkigayo.
