Time Magazine Crowns BTS As Entertainer Of The Year
BTS has added another notch in their belts as they have been crowned by Time Magazine as the "Entertainer of the Year."
Time acknowledged that the seven-member group is not just the biggest act from Korea but is actually the biggest band in the world. While the band has been steadily gaining popularity over the last few years, their release "Dynamite" propelled to them stardom. The song was their first all-English song, and it shot straight to the top of the Billboard charts, solidifying their status in the industry.
They had a special performance of their hit song for Time's broadcast special. Instead of the usual elaborate stage fans are used to, the stripped-down performance featured the boys in a simple studio and singing while sitting down, unlike the previous performances that had them dancing to their song.
Meanwhile, their next release, "Life Goes On" also sat at the top of the Billboard charts. Unfortunately, it did not have the same staying power as "Dynamite." The title track from their latest album, "Be," found itself falling down to the 28th spot only a week after it took the top position. Forbes says this was a very significant drop, as it has the second-largest fall from the top in the history of the charts. But despite this dip in the rankings for their title track, their album continues to do well in the charts.
As for Time Magazine, BTS was not the only personality honored this year. Lebron James of the LA Lakers was crowned the Athlete of the Year. They also released the people who are on the shortlist for Person of the Year, namely Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Frontline Health Care Workers and Dr. Anthony Fauci, and Movement for Racial Justice. Eventually, it was Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who were declared as the Person of the Year for 2020.
