SBS Says Sorry To aespa's Ningning For Rude Comment On Her Fancam Video
SBS released a statement apologizing for the recent controversy regarding rude comments heard on aespa member Ningning's fancam in their performance for "Inkigayo" last week.
The said video fancam was uploaded on December 1, and within the first few seconds, you could hear someone laughing in the background. While that was not controversial at all, it's what the person uttered that angered many fans. The alleged staff could be heard saying, "That's uncoordinated," along with a curse word.
In a statement, SBS apologized and clarified that the words said by the staff had nothing to do with Ningning or aespa. They said that whoever uploaded the video on YouTube was not able to catch the mistake, and they are sorry if anyone has taken offense by the incident.
While some fans readily accepted the explanation, others were not easily convinced. They claimed that the reason was really not true and that the staff was offensive to the artists. They cited a previous incident that happened this year, this time with the girl group TWICE. When the JYP group was promoting their single "More and More," they were able to bag a win in "Inkigayo" and performed during the encore stage. While they were singing, a male staff from the show was heard commenting on how bad the group was at singing, and again a curse word was included. SBS apologized then, too, saying that it was a misconception as the staff was not talking about TWICE at all. But with this fresh in the mind of fans, they cannot help but think that SBS is really not being professional at all.
Fans are already very sensitive toward the rookie group as they have been receiving criticisms even before they debuted last month. Individual members of aespa have been receiving hate, including bullying and partying allegations, which SM has vehemently denied.
