Healthy living can go along way to support your immune system and get your body stronger for fighting and even preventing infections. While food cannot treat COVID-19 or coronavirus, they can definitely help you in the long term to live a healthier life. Below are a list of foods you should definitely add to your diet for a healthier immune system.

1.  Berries
Berries are not only delicious, but they are some of the best things you could eat for the amazing health benefits provided. Berries like blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are loaded with antioxidants, which protect your cells to reduce the risk of disease. According to Healthline, studies confirm that the antioxidant present in may help in reducing oxidative stress. Berries are also high in vitamin C and have high anti-inflammatory properties.  

2. Lots of greens
Greens like kale, spinach, and collard greens are a no-brainer for strengthening immune system. These vegetables are full of nutrients including vitamin A, C, and K. They are loaded with minerals and antioxidants that help prevent disease. For the full nutritional benefits, these greens are best consumed raw. 

3. Fermented foods
Foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, and pickles (with no added sugar) help to prevent infections. According to an article from Glamour, they build healthier gut microbiomes that fight against infections. 

4. Fatty Fish
Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, trout, and sardines contain loads of vitamins that are a great addition to your diet. In particular, it is a great source of lean protein, omega-3s, and vitamin D, which supports the activation of immune cells. 

5. Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits like oranges, mandarins, lemon, lime, and grapefruit are full of vitamin C. This nutrient does wonders for our immune system and also helps to give us glowy and smooth skin. Citrus fruits are also rich in vitamin B, potassium, and magnesium. Its nutrients contain anti-inflammatory properties, and may have benefits to support heart health, fight against cancer, and against kidney stones.
