BTS Confirmed To Appear On 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert'; TV Host Teases A Special Surprise For The Group
BTS is going to blow the New York City's Ed Sullivan Theater that houses The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. This is what Stephen Colbert think would likely to happen when the group performs at the theater.
Colbert has confirmed that BTS will be on the show next week. During the show's broadcast on Thursday, the host-comedian talked about the upcoming visit of whom he called the "global super group" BTS.
Colbert revealed that he has been hoping to have the "Idol" hitmakers for quite some time now but he probably can't get a chance due to the tight schedule of the group. Now, Colbert finally has a chance to meet Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook in person.
The Emmy winner host also teased that they are preparing something special for the group. Colbert gave out some hints such as "boy band", "Ed Sullivan Theater," and "special." He added that these never happen before except for one time when a group of male musicians rocked the theater.
Although Colbert claimed that he can't remember the name of the group, he gave a hint that it comes with a "beat." Viewers believe that Colbert is referring to the Beatles since The Ed Sullivan Theater is the site of the British group's historic debut performance in the United States.
Some also speculate that Colbert could be talking about The Rolling Stones since he and in-house band Stay Human leader Jon Batiste are talking about a band that caused a problem at the theater a few decades ago. On October 25, 1964, The Rolling Stones got invited at The Ed Sullivan Show but pandemonium broke out because of too many people flock the theater. Host Ed Sullivan decided to ban the group from his show.
With Colbert's clues, many BTS fans began to speculate about the special surprise for the K-pop group that Colbert is talking about. Some ARMYs are hoping for performance along with the living members of the Beatles or The Rolling Stone. Others also pointed out the recent interview of BTS with Billboard where they were asked about the Beatles.
Whoever or whatever the surprise is, that remains to be seen when the BTS set foot at the Ed Sullivan Theater in Manhattan, NYC on May 15 for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The "Boy With Luv" singers have previously appeared in other TV shows in the US such as Saturday Night Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and The Late Late Show with James Corden. BTS also recently won the Top Duo/Group award and Top Social Artist award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
