EXO's Suho Praised For His Work Ethic; 'Student A' Director Explains How Idol's Blonde Hair Secures A Role

EXO member Suho is all over places. He is busy promoting with his band, and he also acts in K-drama series, film, and even in theater.

Aside from his hit TV series Rich Man, Poor Woman, EXO was also seen in the movie Student A. Director Lee Kyung Seob talked about how they cast the role of Jae Hee, which was portrayed by Suho.

He said they initially thought of looking for an actor who has the same age range as Jae Hee, but they decided to cast an actor who may be older but has the right image. The Lee saw a picture of Suho, who had blonde hair at the time, for EXO promotions. The director revealed that it was a unanimous decision to give the blonde-haired character to Suho.

Lee also shared that Suho showed passion in acting and has an impressive work ethic. Apparently, the EXO member gave extra effort to learn his character and the film as a whole.

"After we went over the script, I was surprised at how he would approach me when he had questions or parts he couldn't figure out and we talked them out together. I think it was because he poured a lot of passion and effort into Jae Hee that we were able to make such a character. I saw a lot of potential in him to become a bright, great actor," director Lee said.

Student A is a film adaptation of a webtoon of the same title. The story revolves around a female middle school student named Mi Rae (Kim Hwan Hee). She is a talented writer who loves online games but has low self-esteem and has been an outcast at school. When she was hurt by her only two friends, Mi Rae finds comfort with Jae Hee (Suho) whom she knows through online games. Jae Hae spends his days giving away free hugs as a mascot.

Suho earlier talked about the age gap between him and co-star Kim Hwan Hee. Although the actress is 11 years his junior, Suho said he never felt any generation gap because Kim is very mature.

"Actually, I think it was even easier because I'm immature. There were sometimes when we were eating together that I wouldn't understand what she was saying, but filming was a lot of fun," Suho revealed.

Meanwhile, aside from movie, Suho will be in the theater, too. He will act on the South Korean musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel The Man Who Laughs. Suho will play the lead character Gwynplaine. The set will run from July 10 to August 26 at the Opera House of the Seoul Arts Centre and from September 4 to October 28 at the Seoul Bluesquare Interpark Hall.
