'Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie' Update: 'Ice Adolescence' May Tell Viktor Nikiforov's Backstory
Following the news that there would be a major announcement happening after the Yuri!!! on Concert, the coming of Yuri!!! on Ice's movie version was formally revealed. Titled Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence, the film is now confirmed to officially come in 2019.
After the revelation, the anime series' Twitter account also unveiled Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence's official details. The page stated that the film will come out in 2019, although its exact release date is yet to be known. It also gave the first glimpse of the movie's official key art featuring Viktor Nikiforov.
In addition, Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence's official trailer has also been unveiled. The 40-second teaser showed Viktor Nikiforov and his dog, Makkachin. The two are standing in an icy placed filled with their footprints. The clip then ended to the film's title card.
According to Polygon, Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence may explore Viktor Nikiforov's backstory. The film is believed to tackle the figure skater's teenage years. Although fans have seen his tale in the anime series, it focused mostly on Yuri Katsuki's origins. Hence, fans only know a little about Viktor Nikiforov's life as his family was not even introduced.
Aside from that, Anime News Network also introduced the rest of Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence staff, who were all from the anime series. The film's original concept is made by the collaboration of Mitsurou Kubo and Sayo Yamamoto. It is also directed and composed by Sayo Yamamoto.

Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence's outline, original script concept, and original character design are also made by Mitsurou Kubo. Tadashi Hiramatsu, too, handles character design. The film's music and music producer are Taro Umebayashi, Taku Matsushiba, and Keisuke Tominaga. Lastly, the animation is handled by MAPPA studio.
Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence is based on the anime series, Yuri on Ice. It was aired from October to December 2016. The show tackled the story of Yuri Katsuki, a Japanese figure skater, Viktor Nikiforov, Yuuri's coach and idol, and Yuri Plisetsky, another young Russian skater.
The film was originally announced in April 2017. However, its production team remained mum about it. More than a year after its official announcement, details about the film have finally been revealed, and fans are more excited to see Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence on the big screen.
