The Vikings Season 5 Episode 11 air date is still a long way from now yet fans are already concerned about one of the show's most enduring characters. Lagertha has truly defied all odds and rose to become the true Queen of Kattegat. Unfortunately, her fate has also been sealed when the Seer declared that she would be killed by a son of Ragnar Lothbrok. Nevertheless, there is hope that Katheryn Winnick's former shieldmaiden will not be the last bad-ass female character in the History series.

Vikings has truly struggled with developing a female character who would be as strong and thought-provoking as Lagertha, who has a truly complex storyline. Several women have come and gone, like Siggy, Aslaugh, Porunn, Queen Kwentrith, Helga, and Astrid, but none have been able to turn viewers into rabid fanatics. But is it possible that Vikings Season 5 Episode 11 will hint at a new character who could actually rival Katheryn Winnick's Queen of Kattegat?

Although people are hoping that the Norsemen will continue to win battles in England, the series has already teased at Wessex fighting back with a historical king. In "A Simple Story," Prince Aethelred refused the crown to succeed his father King Aethelwulf and nominated his half-brother Alfred to become the new King of Wessex. Although Alfred's storyline has been changed tremendously in the series, the real Alfred the Great played a major role in driving the Vikings out of England. In addition to that, he had a daughter who was just as fearsome as Katheryn Winnick's Lagertha.

Aethelflaed has been left out of most history books but the Lady of the Mercians is credited for convincing the Vikings to give up the lands they occupied in England. Like Lagertha, she refused to remarry after the death of her husband who ruled Mercia and only had one daughter. In addition to that, Aethelflaed often rode to battle to take on the Norsemen with her army. The warrior queen is already a major character in the BBC America series The Last Kingdom.

So is it possible that Lagertha's successor will not be a Viking but a truly powerful English queen? It is still unclear if Vikings Season 5 will introduce a young Aethelflaed but there are speculations that she will appear in the sixth season. In the meantime, fans have to worry about how Lagertha's fate will play out in Vikings Season 5 Episode 11.
