Fans are hoping to see a new progress in Leroy Jethro Gibbs' (Mark Harmon) life in NCIS Season 16. As they feel like he is more settled today, this might be the perfect time to put some development in his character. He is expected to save his boss, Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll), who is in danger after the previous season's major cliffhanger. Now, the big question is what will happen after that?

On the return of NCIS Season 16, it is quite expected that it will pick up where the previous season ended. To recall, Jacqueline Sloane (Maria Bello) decided to confront Hakim alone, but she was joined by Gibbs and the rest of the team.

However, they later found out that the jet they were boarding was just a decoy. Hakim went onboard on another aircraft and kidnapped Vance, who saved Sloane from his brutal hands a long time ago, per TVLine.

Continuing the major cliffhanger, according to CarterMatt, the NCIS teams may join forces to create a concrete plan to save Vance. From here, fans can expect to see a lot of action scenes in NCIS Season 16. However, there is also a possibility that Carroll's role will die. Will he be the next one to bid goodbye after Pauley Perrette?

If this happens, things will definitely change for the NCIS team, and Gibbs might be promoted as a Director. Will this be the character development fans have been waiting for? Fans have been waiting to see the vulnerable side of Harmon's role.

Although Gibbs is known for being a tough guy, fans wanted to see his emotional side—especially at this point in his life. As he is believed to have a close relationship with Abby Scuito, the NCIS Major Case Response Team's leader may feel her absence in NCIS Season 16 after Pauley Perrette's exit in the previous season.

Also, this may be the perfect time for Gibbs to have a special relationship with Sloane. Although this doesn't necessarily have to be romantic, having a deeper friendship with Bello's character may show who he really wants himself to be. As Sloane is considered to be an outsider, she is someone who can challenge Gibbs. NCIS Season 16 is expected to return in September on CBS.
