It looks like the wait for The Winds of Winter release date could last as long as a sworn brother's stay with the Night's Watch. There have been speculations that George R.R. Martin is struggling to find the inspiration to finish writing the sixth novel of A Song of Ice and Fire. Now there is a huge possibility that Book 6 will not be published until after the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 8. Martin has just been confirmed as one of the producers in the upcoming animated film adaptation of his novella The Ice Dragon.

The Winds of Winter release date was initially expected to be announced this year. However, George R.R. Martin has decided to complete Fire and Blood first, announcing that the gigantic Targaryen tome will be published in November. Not surprisingly, fans were disappointed with the announcement since everyone was hoping that the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book will be available before the Game of Thrones Season 8 air date. Unfortunately, the novel could be facing yet another delay as Martin has signed on to personally supervise Warner Bros' adaptation of The Ice Dragon.

According to Variety, George R.R. Martin will work as one of the producers of The Ice Dragon. The novella actually focuses on a girl named Adara who becomes friends with a dragon that breathes blue flame. However, the story is not related to the world of Westeros despite the dragon's resemblance to the recently resurrected Viserion in Game of Thrones. It has not yet been confirmed when the animated film will begin production but there is a huge possibility that it will take up much of the time Martin should be spending on The Winds of Winter.

So when exactly is The Winds of Winter release date? George R.R. Martin has not yet made an official announcement, leading to concerns that the novel will never be completed. After all, the author has a long history of unfinished works. There is a possibility that the final two books of A Song of Ice and Fire will never be published at all. Nevertheless, some are still hoping that Martin will eventually be done with Book 6 by 2020.
