BTS News: Bangtan Boys Makes Another History; 'Love Yourself: Tear' Debuts At No. 1 Spot In Billboard 200 Chart
BTS finally made it. There is no doubt that the Korean pop group has conquered the United States as their new album made its debut in Billboard 200 chart on the top spot.
The Bangtan Boys has made too many firsts in just a span of one week. The seven-member K-pop band topped the Billboard 200 album chart with their latest album Love Yourself: Tear. This is the group's first No. 1 on the chart, the first K-pop album to lead the list, and the first primarily foreign-language No. 1 album in Billboard 200 in over 12 years.
The publication has released its latest Billboard 200 list showing BTS's latest album leading. The album sold 135,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. alone in its debut week ending May 24. About 100,000 of which were traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music.
The sum of Tear's first week exceeded the prediction of some industry forecasters. It was predicted on May 21 that the LP would start with 100,000 units. Three days later, the forecast jumped to over 120,000 but the album eventually sold 135,000 units. The Tear album was released on May 18.
With Love Yourself: Tear on top of the tally, Post Malone's beerbongs & Bentleys dropped to No. 2 after three consecutive weeks on the lead. Rapper Lil Baby is on the third place with his debut studio album Harder Than Ever. The new June 2-dated chart where BTS took the No. 1 place will be posted on Billboard's websites on May 30.
The Billboard 200 ranks among the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on consumption. The tally includes the traditional album sales, track equivalent albums as well as streaming equivalent albums.
The latest BTS feat came just a week after they also made history as the first K-pop act to perform live at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and the first Korean group to earned a back-to-back win in BMAs. BTS won the Top Social Artist award for the second year in a row.
Some members of BTS already expressed their gratitude to their fans and excitement on their latest feat. Meanwhile, the BTS Army in the U.S. also took to Twitter to celebrate the band's latest achievement.
"Congrats to BTS of course, but congrats to us too! We made this happen. I'm so proud of ARMYs esp U.S ARMYs! We did so amazing with nonstop buying, downloading and streaming. Hard work paid off. Thanks to all who was so committed and devoted in making #LYTear1onBB200," a fan tweeted.
