Charlie Hunnam has already made a name for himself by playing rebels who happen to have washboard abs. Fans are still gushing over his seductively tragic Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy and the headstrong Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket in the first Pacific Rim film. However, it looks like the King Arthur: Legend of the Sword actor has completely reinvented himself in his new movie Papillon. The intense first trailer for the Rami Malek flick offers a glimpse at Hunnam's shocking weight loss as he takes on the role of French prisoner Henri Charrière.

There is little doubt that Charlie Hunnam was determined to make his portrayal of an incarcerated writer completely believable. To achieve this, the former Sons of Anarchy star reportedly lived on cigarettes and black coffee while filming Papillon in Serbia. The result of Hunnam's efforts was in full display in the film's first trailer.

The Papillon trailer opens with Charlie Hunnam's Henri Charrière enjoying a night with his girlfriend Nenette, who is portrayed by Eve Hewson. There is a brief glimpse at Hunnam's lean frame when his shirtless character is arrested for murder, but his body significantly gets thinner in later scenes where he and Rami Malek's Louis Dega deal with other prisoners in Devil's Island. Naturally, fans were concerned that the Pacific Rim actor might not gain his buff body back in future projects.

People need not concern themselves with Charlie Hunnam not being able to look like Jax Teller again. The Papillon actor is already back in shape as he jogged shirtless with his Triple Frontier co-star Garrett Hedlund. Hopefully, Hunnam can continue to stay buff in his other projects.

Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek star in Papillon, which premieres on August 24. Hunnam has two more films scheduled for release in 2019.
