'Sense8' Update: Netflix Drops Finale Trailer; Everything To Know About The Special Episode
Finally, Sense8 fans will be given closure. Netflix announced the release date of the series finale as well as the trailer for the two-hour special episode.
After waiting for more than a year, Netflix has finally announced that the Sense8 will have one last episode. It is not what Sense8 fans would like to see, but they are willing to take it instead of nothing at all. The only consolation is, the series finale will be a two-hour special.
The sci-fi drama premiered in June 2015 with 12 episodes. It received favorable reviews and won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series and received a nod from the Emmys for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
Days before Christmas 2016, Netflix released the first episode of Season 2. The remaining 10 episodes became available for streaming on May 5, 2017. The season garnered positive reception and nominations at the Emmys for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour) and in GLAAD Media Awards.
However, Netflix announced on June 1, 2017, that they had canceled the series. But before the month ended, the streaming service announced that they would be doing a two-hour series finale due to persistent demands from fans.
Many fans of the TV series were furious with the cancellation after Sense8 Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger. Netflix said the show's creators would be making one last episode to tie up loose ends.
Although the plot for the finale episode has been kept tightly under wraps, the teaser offered some hints on what to expect in the last two-hour episode. Netflix dropped a two-minute trailer for the final episode. It teases a violent environment, but it also looks like there will be a happy ending for the characters. Netflix earlier hinted that the cluster would come together for one final mission to protect the future of sensates.
This means Sense8 viewers will finally have the answers to some burning questions they had when Season 2 concluded last year. Is Kala (Tina Desai) leaving Rajan (Purab Kohli) for Wolfgang (Max Riemelt)? The episode will also pick up right where Season 2 ended.
All of the major cast members are returning for the last episode. Aside from Desai and Riemelt, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tuppence Middleton, Miguel ángel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, and Toby Onwumere are reprising their respective roles.
The Sense8 story follows the lives of eight strangers who find themselves linked mentally and emotionally despite the distance. They later find out that a shadowy organization is hunting them down. They formed a cluster of "sensates" and decided to fight together in order to stay alive.
Though Netflix has said this will be the finale episode of Sense8, many of the show's fans are hoping that creator Lana Wachowski will do more seasons and possibly work with another network. During a Facebook Live session for Vancouver Pride with some of the show's actors in August 2017, the series creator reportedly hinted that she did not just write one last episode for the show but more episodes that are enough to make one more season. The Sense8 series finale will be aired on June 8, 2018.
