'Steven Universe' Season 6: Pearl's Relationship With Rose Quartz Could Move Rebecca Sugar Series Even Further

There is little doubt that fans are still trying to wrap their heads around the shocking revelation from Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 18. Steven's discovery may have confirmed a long-standing fan theory, but it also hinted at what could happen in the highly anticipated Steven Universe Season 6. The following contains spoilers from the episode "A Single Pale Rose" so proceed with caution.

In Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 18, Steven demanded the truth from Pearl in hopes to find out who had shattered Pink Diamond. Pearl refused to answer, choosing to send Steven into her Gem to retrieve her cellphone. After meeting several smaller Pearls in the Gem, Steven finally discovers that Pink Diamond was Rose Quartz and Rose had forced Pearl to keep her secret several years ago. Could the revelation affect everything that will happen in Steven Universe Season 6?

The truth about Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz certainly changes things up for the Rebecca Sugar animated series. People immediately began questioning the real dynamic between Rose and Pearl and how it would affect Pearl in Steven Universe Season 6. The AV Club even points out that there were several phone numbers complete with lipstick stains and hearts which were hidden away in her Gem. It certainly brings up the possibility that Pearl's past encounters could be brought to life in the next season.

Although some are hoping to see more of Pearl's backstory in Steven Universe Season 6, it is also possible that this will be explored in the back end of the current season. After all, Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey have both promised "more surprises" after they had mistakenly aired spoilers from Steven Universe Season 5 in the Drawn: The Story of Animation podcast. Cartoon Network has also issued an apology regarding the incident stating that there are "unknown turns for Steven Universe ahead — for a long time to come."

So does this confirm that there will be a Steven Universe Season 6? Hopefully, Cartoon Network is already talking to Rebecca Sugar about the highly anticipated follow-up. In the meantime, all new episodes for Steven Universe Season 5 are set to air in summer 2018.
