‘Persona 5 The Animation’ Episode 4 Spoilers: Features Phantom Thieves of Hearts’ First Operation

Persona 5 The Animation, an anime series based on the popular video game, is understandably not everyone's cup of tea. While players would no doubt praise it for being true to the game's elements, the same attempt to recreate the game's atmosphere in the anime series might not be appreciated by the casual viewer, especially those who are yet to play the Persona 5 game.

A perfect example is the recently released Persona 5 The Animation Episode 4. The recent installment is actually the climax of the climax of Kamoshida's story arc. From the storyline's point of view, it can be considered a significant episode since it is the first time operation of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts in their noble quest of trying to rid the world of deception, hypocrisy, and corruption.

Gamers will definitely enjoy the Persona 5 Episode 4 as it really feels like the viewers are in the game. The storyline incorporated scenes that are normally encountered by all gamers when playing these types of titles. For instance, there was a scene where the guys were buying a weapon from a shop, the characters arguing among themselves what code names to call each other while sneaking into their enemy's lair and, finally, the final fight with Shadow Kamoshida which certainly felt gamelike, thanks to the production team's decision of using CGI effects on Kamoshida.

While all these elements might be pleasing to Persona 5 gamers, non-players might not be able to appreciate the production team's efforts. For instance, some might complain that the characters bickering about code names somehow feels like watching a let's play video instead of an anime series. There are also complaints on the use of CGI effects on the boss fight because it might not seem on par with the artwork level in other series.

But then again, this is essentially an anime series targeted to its loyal game fans. If they persist long enough, non-players might soon adjust to these minor details and enjoy Persona 5 The Animation, not for its technical perfection, but the value of the story it can tell.
