The endgame is near for one of the most iconic TV shows in history. HBO has yet to announce the Game of Thrones Season 8 release date, but speculations already surround the final season. Although most theories involve the main characters of the beloved fantasy series, some fans are also concerned about the identity of the main villain. Will the world finally learn the truth about the Night King and his real motivations for taking over Westeros?

The Night King may have only been introduced in the fourth season, but his arrival has been hinted at since the show's pilot episode. Nevertheless, the master of the White Walkers already proved that he is a force to reckon with when he singlehandedly took down Viserion and resurrected Daenerys Targaryen's dragon to be his steed. But is it possible that the leader of the Army of the Dead has an unexpected connection to some major characters in Game of Thrones Season 8?

Blasting News reports that the Night King's sigil is actually a three-eyed crow, something that is believed to represent the White Walker deity known as the Great Other. It is possible that the villain might actually be an incarnation of the dark god himself and has been the one that appeared in Bran Stark's dream in the first season of Game of Thrones.

So could this mean that the Night King is actually the Great Other? Although it is possible that George R.R. Martin will continue with the Three-Eyed Crow's storyline in The Winds of Winter, some believe that Game of Thrones Season 8 will be taking the villain in a different direction. There have been speculations that the Night King's connection to Bran Stark will both be his advantage and eventual downfall.

The final season could feature a scene where Bran Stark reveals the Night King's motivations Jon Snow and his army. The new Three-Eyed Raven could also tell his cousin about the villain's weaknesses. This could give the King in the North a slight advantage during the major battle in Game of Thrones Season 8.

The Game of Thrones Season 8 release date has not yet been announced. However, the series is expected to return to HBO in early 2019.
