‘The 100’ Season 5 Release Date, Spoilers & Update: Upcoming Season To Feature Flashbacks, New Villain, And More
The much-awaited return of The 100 is happening this week. The CW post-apocalyptic series will pick up six years after the events in the Season 4 finale. This is where the flashbacks will come in.
In the Season 4 finale, the world came to an end. In order to survive, the groups of individuals were able to find ways to save their lives. One group headed to space to live in the Ark for six years, some lived in the bunker, while a pair of individuals chose to stay on the land. Clarke (Eliza Taylor) manages to survive in the land because of her Nightblood. She also found a young Nightblood named Madi (Lola Flanery).
Flashbacks in The 100 Season 5
Show creator Jason Rothenberg revealed that there would be flashbacks throughout the fifth season. He explained that it is necessary, so viewers will understand what happened to the various groups during the six-year gap and how they have changed.
Bob Morley (Bellamy) revealed that the six years in space definitely change the people who live there. Morley added that Bellamy took Clarke's advice and became the leader of the group. Fans will also learn more about the mysterious ship that was seen approaching Clarke in the final moments of Season 4.
New Villain in The 100 Season 5
Her name is Charmaine Diyoza (Ivana Milicevic), the leader of a group of notorious criminals who are onboard the prison ship. She is said to be a "ruthless military strategist." She, along with her fellow newcomers, is expected to clash with Clarke and the other characters in the series.
Rothenberg teased that Charmaine's group came from a long space mission. When they finally found a place they can live in after a grueling search, they wouldn't just let others push them away.
"They believe that it's theirs, too. They believe that they've done their time and made it home, and it's their planet as much as it is anybody's. They want a second chance, and they're going to fight for it," warns Rothenberg, pertaining to the new villains.
New Twists in The 100 Season 5
The showrunner revealed that he did have thought about the end of the show. But instead of wrapping up the story, the supposed ending broke a new storyline to explore. He further teased that the twist in the upcoming season is bigger than viewers have seen in the past, and it could potentially set the show for more seasons.
"When this season comes to an end, it sets up a whole new adventure in a way that surprised me. We do keep reinventing the show every year - every year is a new adventure, a new set of bad guys, a new set of goals for our heroes. So as long as we're blessed enough to make it... I think the twist at the end of this season is bigger than anything we've done in the past, let's put it that way. It could set us up for a long run," Rothenberg told Entertainment Weekly.
The 100 Season 5 will premiere on April 24 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. Meanwhile, you can watch Season 5 trailer here.
