Red Velvet Members Throws Support To Bandmate Joy's K-Drama 'Great Temptation' With A Food Truck Amidst Low Ratings
Red Velvet cheered for the cast and crew of K-drama Great Temptation in which their bandmate, Joy, is playing a lead role. The K-pop group brought a food truck to the set location of the MBC series to feed everyone.
The mobile food station was packed with snacks for the show's cast and staff. Red Velvet Joy (whose real name is Park Soo Young) was thrilled to see her bandmates Irene and Seulgi. The two visited Joy on the set and also took some photos with her. Wendy and Yeri missed the visit.
"All staff members of 'Great Temptation', please eat well and fighting!!!," Red Velvet wrote on the top of the snack cart which also shows a photo of Joy. The side banner, on the other hand, has a "Ddooyoung-ie has us!! Have strength! Fighting" message.
"[Park Soo Young] is always cheerful while filming. The members of Red Velvet watch her drama and give her lots of support. Not only did they send a food truck, but they also showed up on set. The staff and cast were all touched by their loyalty and support," Soompi quoted a production staff saying.
Joy's Great Temptation Struggling For Higher Ratings
The Red Velvet generous gift to Joy came after reports that Great Temptation dropped to its lowest rating ever this week. Based on Nielsen Korea data, Great Temptation's Episodes 21 and 22 garnered a rating of 1.7 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively. It is the lowest rating the show ever had and also the lowest rating in MBC's K-drama history since 2000. Both episodes aired on April 16.
Its previous Episodes 17 and 18, which aired on April 9, recorded 1.8 percent and 1.6 percent respectively. In comparison, its rival drama KBS' The Miracle That We Met topped the viewership ratings with 11.2 percent, while SBS' Should We First Kiss? got 7.9 percent and 9.3 percent for its Episodes 29 and 30.
Great Temptation was able to bounce back the following day. The Episodes 19 and 20 on April 10 recorded a little higher rating of 2.0 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited kissing scene between Eun Tae Hee (Joy) and Kwon Shi Hyun (Woo Do Hwan) aired on Tuesday. The two shared a sweet kiss while cherry blossom petals fell around them. The April 17 episode garnered a rating of 1.9 percent.
Earlier this month, Joy was slammed by some netizens for not joining Red Velvet at the historic concert in Pyongyang, North Korea. The group's agency, SM Entertainment, explained that the K-pop idol couldn't participate in the event because of the conflict in her filming schedule with Great Temptation.
Aside from Joy and Woo Do-hwan, Great Temptation also stars Moon Ga-young and Kim Min-Jae. It airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m. KST on MBC in Korea. The K-drama is set to conclude on May 1, 2018.
