Much as fans wanted to retain all of the characters of This Is Us, that seems to be impossible. Avid fans of This is Us know that death is inevitable for any character in the NBC hit drama. No one's future is certain at this point, probably except for Randall Pearson. So who's death will be featured next in Season 3?

The hearts of many fans were crushed when Randall's (Sterling K. Brown) biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), died in the show's debut season. Then in Season 2, viewers cried more, and even for days, after Jackson Pearson's (Milo Ventimiglia) highly-anticipated death was finally aired. Now, although it could mean boxes of Kleenex once again, many fans are already expecting another major death in Season 3.

Who Will Die Next?

Prior to the This is Us Season 2 finale, there has been speculation that a major character will receive  bad news at the end of the episode. Many assumed that someone would find out that they were terminally ill. In the finale, however, nothing of that sort was revealed. There is someone who was teased to be in a very rough time with his life.

In the season finale, the major characters' futures were teased. Kevin (Justin Hartley) and his new girlfriend, Zoe (Melanie Liburd), are heading to Vietnam, where his father served as a soldier during the war. Elsewhere, Kate (Chrissy Metz) is having a difficult first year of marriage. Kate's husband, Toby (Chris Sullivan), is seen in bed and seems to be suffering from depression again.

During his wedding day, Toby's parents brought up his history of depression. Co-showrunner Elizabeth Berger said Season 3 will show how and why Toby is depressed again. Viewers will also see Toby's backstory, including the reason why his brother didn't attend his nuptial.

Meanwhile, Randall's wife, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), as well as his youngest daughter, Annie, were not featured in the fast forward clips of the Season 2 finale. Only the older Randall and grown-up Tess were seen talking about the difficulty of going to see "her." The "her" that they were discussing was never revealed in the finale but This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman earlier hinted that this storyline is going to be ambitious and surprising for the upcoming season.

Who's Coming Back in This Is Us Season 3?

The Big Three is definitely coming back. Moreover, Fogelman assured that Randall will not be killed off in the upcoming season, contrary to speculations that Brown's character will be dead next. Fans have expressed their concern that Randall will be the next character to be killed off after Kevin told Randall "you're not going anywhere" in one conversation.

"Listen, I can't reassure anybody of anything. I can assure everybody that we're not killing Randall this season, so everybody can relax," he told Entertainment Weekly.

Jack Pearson (Ventimiglia) has been confirmed to be coming back, at least in the form of flashbacks. It can be recalled that Jack's death has been revealed mid-Season 2. Ventimiglia's on-screen wife, Mandy Moore (Rebecca), is also definitely returning. The actress previously hinted that Season 3 will be more focused on Rebecca and Miguel's (Jon Huertas) relationship.

NBC hasn't announced a premiere date for the 18-episode third season. It is expected, however, to be released in fall like the previous installments. The network is also expected to drop the first trailer for This Is Us Season 3 in May.
