The MIXNINE winners' future remains uncertain as YG Entertainment's Yang Hyun Suk is said to be still working on their debut. In fact, an insider revealed that the group's contract period might be changed along with the members.

Initially, the MIXNINE trainees' contract was just a short four-month promotional period. However, as the show didn't succeed as Yang Hyun Suk expected, he suggested giving the winning group a three-year contract instead. On the first half of the contract's time, the team would be promoting. In the other half, they would return to their music labels.

"There are some that believe that the 3 years is too long, but the 4 months is too short," an insider said, per All Kpop. Being MIXNINE trainees for three years is quite a long time, and some of the winners opposed Yang Hyun Suk's plan. They wanted to retain the original four-month period contract. This includes embarking on a 15-country world tour.

If this happens, YG Entertainment will consider bringing back the other MIXNINE trainees ranking from 10 to 20 to replace the talents who would be leaving after four months. With all these considerations the music label is planning, another source said that it seems that the group's debut is far from being canceled.

The insider also explained that it would put YG Entertainment in a bad light if it ends a project it once planned. Furthermore, the informant added that it is "no good" to keep the original four-month contract, but some of the MIXNINE trainees are having a hard time deciding if they are going to accept the three-year agreement.

Hence, it looks like everyone is just waiting and watching each other's actions. "If one side takes an action, they might have to take the responsibility for the project being canceled," the source continued to say.

It was earlier revealed that Yang Hyun Suk met with MIXNINE's top nine finalists' agencies to talk about their future, per Soompi. In the gathering, they discussed different topics from the winning group's activities to their contracts.

Originally, MIXNINE trainees are said to be officially launched this April and will actively promote as a group. With the delay of the official announcement about the winners' future, some believed YG Entertainment has no plans to introduce them. But, Yang Hyun Suk denied the hearsays and said they are now working on it.
