The rumors about Rick and Morty Season 4's cancellation started to swirl this week; thus, fans are left brokenhearted. However, analyzing the origin of the supposed "cancellation," it looks like it is not the case.

Answering a fan's question, the animated series' co-creator Dan Harmon tweeted that Rick and Morty Season 4 is still waiting to be renewed by Adult Swim. "It can be challenging, especially with crippling lazy alcoholism, to write a show that hasn't been ordered by a network," he said.

The 45-year-old writer understands the fans' agony of waiting, and it actually affects him. "The thought that fans like you pay the price...I mean...I'm gonna grab a drink." he continued to say.

From here, the Rick and Morty Season 4 cancellation rumors started. Harmon actually meant that the show is not yet renewed, and not canceled. So, there is still a big chance that fans will once again see the hilarious duo of Rick and Morty—all they have to do is wait.

In fact, in his appearance on Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier's SModcast, Harmon revealed the real reason why they are not yet working on Rick and Morty Season 4. It is not because he doesn't want to impress anyone, but because of the contract negotiations.

Harmon also disclosed that the renewal is now more complicated compared to the previous seasons. To recall, Rick and Morty Season 3 got renewed while the second season was still airing. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the fourth season.

Newsweek reported that the negotiation with Turner Broadcasting System is still ongoing; thus, a season renewal is not happening yet. The last new Rick and Morty episode fan saw was still in October 2017.

Additionally, it is not only Harmon who fans are demanding to work on Rick and Morty Season 4. While announcing a new release from Squanch Games, the show's co-creator Justin Roiland was asked by a fan to get back working on the series.

He then pointed out to Turner Broadcasting System, which is not yet ordering new episodes for Rick and Morty Season 4. So, he said that just like them, he is also waiting. On the other hand, the series' writer Ryan Ridley admitted, via Independent, that it takes a long while to write and animate a new season of the show. Hence, the fourth installment might come on air in 2019 or later.
