‘Supernatural/Scooby-Doo’ Crossover Update: Scoobynatural Merchandise, Release Date, Trailer, and More
The Supernatural/Scooby-Doo crossover is just a few weeks away and fans of both shows can't wait to see it. This could be the most ambitious crossover for the Supernatural series since its debut in 2005. By the looks of its promo teaser, the Winchester brothers and their BFF angle will be teaming up the Scooby-Doo's gang to solve another supernatural mystery.
In celebration of the much-awaited crossover, retail chain Hot Topic will be releasing an exclusive collection of "Scoobynatural" merchandise. All collectibles will be available online as well as on the early screening of the episode at the PaleyFest on March 20. Scooby-Doo will be joining the panel at the PaleyFest from 3-7 p.m. along with the cast members of Supernatural.
Apparently, the infamous rides of the crossover characters - the classic black Impala of the Winchesters and the Mystery Machine of the Scooby-Doo gang - are also scheduled to have their first joint appearance at the event. Both vehicles will be parked in the Hollywood & Highland center court from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on March 20, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Meanwhile, The CW has also dropped the crossover teaser showing Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) being sucked by a television set and appearing in the animated world of Scooby-Doo. It also teases Dean's excitement to see his favorite cartoon characters and also making his moves on Daphne.
Supernatural/Scooby-Doo Crossover Storyline
In the upcoming Supernatural/Scooby-Doo crossover, also called the "Scoobynatural", Dean saves the life of a pawnshop owner from an evil stuffed dinosaur. To return the favor, the store owner gives Dean a magical television set. Once he brings the TV back to the bunker and watches an episode of Scooby-Doo, Dean, Sam, and Castiel (Misha Collins) will be transported into Scooby-Doo's animated world where they join forces with the snack-craving Great Dane and his friends to solve a supernatural mystery.
The Winchester brother and Castiel end up specifically in the 1970 episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. The episode will feature the Impala cruising alongside the Mystery Machine. It will also reveal that Scooby-Doo is Dean's childhood favorite show and his knowledge about it will become handy later on.
However, the special doesn't follow the original plot line of the "A Night of Fright Is No Delight" episode of Scooby-Doo. Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb has teased it is darker than the original episode but of course with lots of humor.
"It gets pretty dark. They walk into an old episode of Scooby-Doo, but it may end up being a new episode of Supernatural," Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb told Entertainment Weekly.
"Once they get over their amazement at being in the cartoon, two things happen. They say, 'We've been in a situation like this before with the Trickster and I think we're supposed to play this out.' And then they realize they're in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which makes Dean incredibly excited because Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon growing up," co-showrunner Robert Singer added.
The Supernatural Season 13 "Scoobynatural" episode airs on March 29 at 8 p.m. on the CW.
