PyeongChang 2018 Makes Dating Hotter; Tinder Reports High Surge at Olympic Villages
The Winter Olympics 2018 isn't just about games, apparently, it's also the best time to meet new people from other countries. And during this time, a noticeable surge of users on the popular dating app Tinder has been recorded.
Tinder Passport
Tinder activated its Tinder Passport feature to premium members allowing users to change their GPS location and be a part of the dating scene in many parts of the world. Since the games kicked off, there has been a 1,850% increase in users using the passport feature to PyeongChang.
The app also made its Tinder Gold upgrade free to Olympic athletes and users in the Olympic Village for the duration of the game.
The Olympic Villages has shown a surge of 345% whilst right swipes have increased to 565% and matches to 644%, as reported by Mashable.
The app also added an official ranking of countries in the Olympic Villages that are heating up winter through "passporting" and swiping right and the U.S. is on the top of the list followed by Sweden and the UK.
Olympic Athletes on Tinder
There have also been reports of competitors and support staff at the Winter Olympics 2018 putting up their profiles on the dating app along with journalists in South Korea. In fact, a Canadian athlete named Alysia has a pretty straightforward profile on the app:
"Just your basic Canadian chick who spends the winter traveling the world racing my toboggan. I work hard but I play even harder. I'm in Korea for a couple of weeks for what some people would say is a pretty important race, and I couldn't be more excited to be here."
However, as news started picking up on the surge of Olympic athletes on Tinder, there are plenty of competitors who have taken down their profiles. Still, the app continues to be hot these days in PyeongChang.
It looks like the Olympics is not just all about winning games, but people from all over the world can also try their luck to win the game of love. Who knows? You might just meet your match in PyeongChang.
