TWICE's 'Likey' MV Teaser May Heat Up the Likes vs. Dislikes Battle
Girl group TWICE has dropped a teaser for the upcoming "Likey" music video. It's the latest promotional effort in the run-up to the group's October comeback and 2nd-anniversary celebration.
The one-minute "Likey" MV teaser has been uploaded on V Live and Youtube, and you can also watch it below. From the looks of it, this is going to be a more ambitious effort than the recent "One More Time" MV for the Japanese market.
The teaser shows the girls individually as they go about various activities, such as skateboarding (Jeongyeon), biking (Nayeon), opening a school locker (Chaeyoung), walking in a park with Canadian geese (Mina) and, um, sitting on a bench (Tzuyu). Jihyo opens the video by doing a selca-style video and pointing at a signpost banner. Dahyun uses a vending machine and Sana scoops ice cream into a waffle cone. Momo senses a disturbance in the Force as she sits in a classroom.
The common denominator about all the individual vignettes is that they show the girls make hearts appear in the world, often in digital symbol form. The heart is the "like" symbol used by Instagram. As Soompi notes, the upcoming Twice studio album is titled "TWICEtagram." And the probable title track is "Likey."
It all fits together. Also, if you check out the official TWICE website by JYP Entertainment, it now looks a lot like the Instagram site. No, we are not trying to say that TWICE is coming out with an app to compete with Instagram. But it's certainly notable that a group that has been called out for copying in the past, fairly or unfairly, is now blatantly copying Instagram for some reason. One theory: it could be a reaction to TWICE having the K-pop MVs with the most "dislikes" on YouTube as of September (reported by AllKpop).
Meanwhile, it appears that "hints" of TWICE doing a band concept for their comeback in the "One More Time" MV (reported here) were only goofing after all. Rumors surfaced a few months ago that the group was preparing for a band concept, and the "One More Time" MV showed TWICE as a band. But the "Likey" MV teaser doesn't suggest a band concept for the comeback. In any case, we'll soon know when the "TWICEtagram" album drops on October 30, 6 p.m. KST.
