The Weinstein Company’s Showtime Drama ‘Guantanamo’ Production Suffers
Due to the rising tension on the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal, the ShowTime drama "Guantanamo" also suffers the consequences. The sexual harassment and rape allegations are also speculated to put The Weinstein Company in turmoil.
Last May, The Weinstein Company received another project which Oliver Stone will direct and executive produce. Showtime affirmed on Friday that they are evaluating the involvement of the company in the Guantanamo drama during the high-rise of the scandal.
The Hollywood Reporter stated that Guantanamo is his first attempt to invade the TV shows. Since the script hasn't been finalized yet, the team is on standby. However, due to the recurring conditions, Stone admitted that they are still "exploring options."
Stone also strongly insisted that he is going to leave the project unless proven that The Weinstein Company is no longer involved in the Harvey Weinstein scandal. He expressed his dismay to what happened as well as his appreciation for the bravery of the women.
"I'm appalled and commend the courage of the women who've stepped forward to report sexual abuse or rape," Stone stated. "I'll, therefore, recuse myself from the 'Guantanamo' series as long as the Weinstein Company is involved."
The Harvey Weinstein scandal spiked up anger and disappointment towards the sexual abuse doe against the multiple women victims. Since it has become a hot issue, speculations and rumors are going out saying that The Weinstein Company will shut down.
Meanwhile, BBC reported that Bob Weinstein, Harvey's brother, denies the reports involving The Weinstein Company. He insists that their investors and bank partners still support the company. Bob also added that the business is ongoing just like it has been before.
The Forbes, on the other side, claims that future of The Weinstein Company remains ambiguous. Some of the stockholders and lenders are now hesitating and appealing for the repayment of their loans. Some of the board members also chose to pull out.
Furthermore, more victims are also expected to file a lawsuit against The Weinstein Company. Harvey Weinstein is no longer connected to the company since TWC fired him on Sunday.
