Blackpink, BTS, Taemin and Jungkook Hailed as Tumblr’s Most Popular K-Pop Stars of 2017
With more than 90 million engagements of K-Pop content annually, Tumblr's K-population spoke on the stars they are crazy about. The most popular K-Pop stars of 2017 turn out to be the members of Blackpink and BTS, along with Taemin and Jungkook.
When it comes to girl groups, Blackpink snatched the No.1 spot thanks to three No.1s on the World Digital Song Sales chart namely "Boombayah", "Playing With Fire", along with their latest single "As If It's Your Last". They are followed by Red Velvet and Girls' Generation, who both had summer releases with the latter celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. The 4th and 5th spots were bagged by TWICE and Mamamoo. The other five girl groups that complete the Top 10 list are the following: f(x), GFriend, Pristin, Loona, and Cosmic Girls.
As for the boys, fans were most focused on BTS. Koreaboo noted that the group's international growth was because they uniquely integrate America's music style into a K-Pop group, expanding their markets. Additionally, the group recently teased an upcoming album and unveiled a cover of "Come Back Home". The second place belongs to EXO, who made their long-awaited comeback with their latest Billboard 200-charting album titled "The War". Other boy band sensations were Seventeen, GOT7, Monsta X, Wanna One, B.A.P, NCT 127, SHINee, and VIXX.
When it comes to solo acts, Taemin got the No.1 thanks to the SHINee singer's solo concerts and new Japanese single. G-Dragon followed him, who released his latest Billboard 200-charting "Kwon Ji Yong" album in June. Jonghyun, Taeyeon, Agust D, Jay Park, Zico, Sunmi, HyunA, and IU filled in the eight other spots.
Lastly, fans chose their favorite individual group members from BTS and EXO. The seven BTS boys take numbers 1 to 7, with Jungkook in the first place, followed by Jimin, V, Rap Monster, Suga, Jin, and J-Hope. Whereas, EXO members Chanyeol, Baekhyun, and Sehun round out the Top 10.
Billboard says that the data was obtained from the first day of summer to the last, June 21 to September 22. There you have it, the most popular K-pop stars for summer 2017!
