Loki (Tom Hiddleston) might be teaming up with his adoptive brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Avengers Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in the first trailer of "Thor: Ragnarok) but, apparently, it was him that brought destruction in Asgard in the first place. According to movie producer Brad Winderbaum, it was the God of Mischief who accidentally frees the Goddess of Death Hela (Cate Blanchett) from Hel.

The last time viewers saw Odin's (Anthony Hopkins) adopted son, he was seated on the throne of the King of Asgard. However, it looks like the God of Mischief has underestimated his own father's responsibility in keeping the universe safe because it was reported that his cockiness is what led Hela to rise and destroy Asgard.

"There were all these threats that [Odin] had quelled or was keeping at bay, using his strength and power to do so, that Loki was completely unprepared for," Winderbaum told Screen Rant. "So he becomes the King of Asgard, everything is great, it's a good party/ But he failed to realize the threats that were just over the horizon, Hela being the biggest and most terrible of all."

This hints that Hela might have attempted something evil Odin to unleash his army on the Goddess of Death. In the end, she was locked her up until she was freed by Loki.

Despite director Taika Waititi repeatedly claiming that "Thor: Ragnarok" is a standalone, it still has deep ties to "The Dark World" and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor was already warned about the destruction of Asgard caused by Loki in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," a scene that was shot but was eventually cut.

However, this could also open an opportunity for redemption for Loki who has been a villain for far too long. He did team up with his brother, Hulk, and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) in order to fight Hela and stop Ragnarok.

As Hiddleston explained (via Nerdist), the arrival of the Goddess of Death to Asgard is also bad news for Loki. Whether he will become a hero is not something that the movie will explore because, as the actor points out, the character constantly changes.

"I think he's a mercurial spirit," said Hiddleston, "And the minute you try to define him, he changes shape."

"Thor: Ragnarok" also stars Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Karl Urban, Ray Stevenson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jeff Goldblum. The movie will land on the big screen on Nov. 3.
