'BTS Comeback Show' Set For Live Broadcast on September 21
BTS has announced their comeback on September 21, and it's not going to be your usual comeback event. The humongous popular K-pop boy band is teasing a big comeback showcase befitting the first K-pop group to win a Billboard Music Award in the United States. (The first Korean star to win a Billboard Music Award was the solo artist Psy in 2013 for his "Gangnam Style" music video.)
Back on May 21, 2017, BTS rocked the entertainment world by bagging the Top Social Artist trophy at the Billboard Music Awards ceremony in Las Vegas. CNN notes that BTS outdid Western pop stars such as Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber.
That remarkable achievement followed the group's successful October 2016 release of their album "Wings: You Never Walk Alone." "Wings" broke the Gaon record for the biggest album sales in Gaon chart history in addition to doing well in America, where it racked up around 25,000 in sales in the first month of release.
The new BTS album is already on track to surpass the achievements of Wings. AllKpop reports that the upcoming BTS mini album "Love Yourself: Her" had amassed more than one million pre-orders as of August 31st, not yet counting international sales. That's a history-making record. No previous K-pop group has managed to sell a million copies just in pre-orders.
One factor that may be driving up sales is the much-hyped collaboration between BTS and the EDM duo The Chainsmokers. They worked together on a track called "Best of Me" that will be available on "Love Yourself: Her."
BTS (also known as Bangtan Boys) will perform songs from the new album for the first time at the "BTS Comeback Show" on September 21, 8:30 p.m. KST. The special live showcase will be broadcast on Mnet and Mnet Japan, and will also be shown on YouTube, iflix and other streaming platforms.
