The live-action television adaptation of the anime and manga series, "One Piece," is already in the works. New rumors claimed that the project, to be produced by Tomorrow Studios with Shueisha, will have a hefty price tag.

This does not come as a surprise considering that the adventures of the pirate Monkey D. Luffy involve exotic islands and fantastical creatures. The lead characters, themselves, have superhuman abilities from eating a mystical fruit called Devil Fruit. Luffy, for example, ate the Gomu Gomu fruit that made his body stretch and contorts like a rubber.

In order to recreate the world of Straw Hat Luffy, the studio will have to shell out a fortune. In a report by Comicbook.com, it was revealed that filming one episode of the "One Piece" live-action adaptation would cost around $9-10 million.

In comparison, HBO spends $10 million or more per episode on its highest-rating television series, "Game of Thrones." But it was British biographical drama, "The Crown," that took home the crown as the most expensive TV series in the world by spending $13 million per episode, according to Time Magazine (via Digital Spy).

If the rumors are true, "One Piece" will become one of the most expensive TV series ever created. Tomorrow Studios' Marty Adelstein is willing to go all out for the adaptation.

"I've been a fan of 'One Piece' for the past twenty years," she explains. "To be entrusted with such an important work by Shueisha and Mr. [Eiichiro] Oda is an honor. It's with great enthusiasm that I will give my all to make One Piece a success. I think that this project could set a new record for the most expensive drama series in TV history."

Oda, for the uninitiated, is the man who wrote and illustrated "One Piece" which was serialized in 1997. The anime adaptation started airing in Japan in 1999.
