EXO's 'Ko Ko Bop' Accused Of Plagiarizing BTS' 'I Need U' MV
EXO is being accused by some fans of plagiarizing BTS' MV concept for their song "I Need U." Some fans raised the plagiarism issue after EXO recently released their MV for "Ko Ko Bop."
According to a report by Kpopstarz, fans raised some concern over the striking similarities in some scenes of the two music videos. They even made some side by side comparisons between BTS' "I Need U" and EXO's "Ko Ko Bop" as proof and said that EXO may have borrowed from the concept of BTS' MV.
While there are similarities in the scenes of the BTS and EXO videos, many fans have said that scenes are only coincidental and are common among music videos. Some fans are saying that the issue may used by those who are trying to spark a fandom war between EXO-Ls and ARMY, EXO and BTS' official fandom.
It can be recalled that this was not the first time that fans traded accusations of plagiarism between the two K-pop groups. Just last May, EXO fans accused BTS of copying EXO's student ID for their photo book.
The photo cards were part of BTS promotion for telecom brand SK Telecom. BTS ARMY lashed back at accusers and said that BTS should not be blamed for the similarities between the two concepts but rather the creative team behind SK Telecom's campaign, All Kpop reported.
It comes as no surprise that K-pop fans are quite critical of new material that comes out because of the high level of competition between idol groups in the market today. EXO and BTS who were launched only one year apart, are undeniably some of the most popular K-pop idol groups in the scene and their fans are naturally very protective of their idols.
It can be recalled that EXO-Ls, EXO's official fandom pooled their resources and celebrated EXO's 5th anniversary in style by renting 11 billboards in New York's Times Square, the first time any idol group has been given such an extravagant gift. Not to be outdone, ARMY, BTS' official fandom also celebrated BTS' 4th anniversary with huge Times Square billboards. They also catapulted BTS to victory as the group bagged the Top Social Artist award at the recently concluded Billboard Music Awards.
