The 2017 Korean Film Shining Awards recently recognized several talented actors and actresses for their achievements in the movie industry. Some of the big winners during the prestigious event included Kpop idols who ventured into acting such as Girls Generation's YoonA, EXO's D.O. and 2PM's Taecyeon.

Some of the biggest names in the South Korean entertainment decked out in their finest formal evening attires to attend the 2017 Korean Film Shining Awards. Held on July 4, Tuesday, at the Conrad Seoul Hotel, three Kpop idols turned actors each brought home awards in honor of their recent achievements in the movie industry. Girls Generation's YoonA and EXO's D.O. both received the Newcomer Award given their roles in the films "Confidential Assignment" and "My Annoying Brother," respectively, Soompi reported.

Apart from the two Kpop stars, 2PM's Taecyeon also received one of the biggest honors during the said event. The "Let's Fight Ghost" star received the Popularity Award given his role in the suspense film "The House of the Disappeared." Other celebrities who were also honored with the same award included actress Yoo In Young and "Reply 1988" actor Ahn Jae Hong for their roles in "Misbehavior" and "Fabricated City," respectively.

Meanwhile, 2PM's Taecyeon and Girls Generation's YoonA were unable to attend the said event although EXO's D.O. was on hand to personally receive his award. In his acceptance speech, the Kpop idol promised to continue trying out new experiences so he could better hone his craft as an actor.

In other news, Girls Generation's YoonA is set to make her small screen comeback in the upcoming historical drama "The King Loves." The Kpop songstress will portray the lead character Eun San who will become entangled in a love triangle between the crown prince Wang Won (Im Siwan) and the crown prince's close friend and bodyguard Wang Rin (Hong Jong Hyun).

In the said drama's recent press conference, Girls Generation's YoonA talked about her role and what viewers can expect to see from her character. Describing Eun San as a "brave" young woman, "The K2" actress shared that her character will initially display a bright personality but will soon convey deeper emotions as she experiences many situations in "The King Loves," Korea Herald quoted the Kpop idol as saying.

"The King Loves" will premiere on July 17, Wednesday, on MBC. Two 30-minute episodes will then be released every Monday and Tuesday.
