'Supernatural' Season 13 News: Sam & Dean To Lose Another Ally As Sheriff Jody Mills Leaves Show To Headline Spinoff?
If at first you don't succeed, a second chance may well be the answer for The CW's plans to develop a spinoff from its long-running "Supernatural" franchise. While the main show, which is now entering its 13th season on air remains a strong fan favorite, the network may already be setting its sights on expanding the show's popularity to fuel a new show.
According to a report by Screen Rant, "Supernatural" Season 13's main plotline may be Lucifer and Jack's crusade against Sam and Dean Winchester but also among its main priorities is to provide a set up for a new spinoff entitled "Wayward Sisters." The new show is expected to be headlined by Kim Rhodes, who has played Sheriff Jody Mills in "Supernatural" for several seasons already.
Based on the report, "Wayward Sisters" will feature Sheriff Mills, Sam and Dean's ally against their fight against monsters and demons, as well as some other "Supernatural" characters as well. The plot is rumored to center around Jody, who leads a group of troubled women who have been orphaned by supernatural tragedy.
It has been rumored that aside from Sheriff Mills, "Wayward Sisters" could also feature Jody's adopted daughters Claire and Alex. Sheriff Hanscum, another character from the "Supernatural" franchise would also add to the girl-power concept of the spinoff show.
This was not the first time that The CW tried to come out with a potential spinoff. In 2014, it tried to introduce a backdoor pilot to "Bloodlines," which centers around the war among Chicago's supernatural families. In its review of the episode, TV Guide panned the show labels the attempted spinoff as a "mockery of the show you love." And this was the sentiment that was shared by many fans and critics.
Still, The CW's fresh attempt to come out with a spinoff could work this time around because they're starting off with familiar characters that fans have rooted for several years. Besides, The CW has had a reputation for creating successful spinoffs like "The Originals" from "The Vampire Diaries" or "Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow" from the success of "Arrow" so this fresh attempt may prove to be successful time around.
