Big Bang’s G-Dragon Says Preparation For ‘Kwon Ji Yong’ Was Mentally & Physically Hard
Recently, Big Bang leader G-Dragon came back as a solo artist with the latest self-titled album 'Kwon Ji Yong'. In the midst of fellow Big Bang member T.O.P's marijuana and overdose issue, the rapper released a solo album after 4 long years.
G-Dragon revealed that preparations for his fourth solo album 'Kwon Ji Yong' were tough, stating, "It was mentally and physically hard to prepare for the album because many things happened in the process." The rapper shared his feelings during his solo concert at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, the first leg of his world tour where he will visit 19 cities.
Though G-Dragon did not specifically mention T.O.P's incident, it is clear that the Big Bang leader implied it was part of the many 'things that happened in the process'. Even amidst the scandal, 'Kwon Ji Yong' soared and conquered music charts everywhere. The album topped iTunes charts in 39 countries, with the title track 'Untitled' claiming tops spots on domestic and international music charts. Evidently, issues surrounding Big Bang's name did not hinder G-Dragon's success.
Upon hearing that 'Kwon Ji Yong' and 'Untitled' are doing great on charts, G-Dragon said, "I felt great upon hearing the good news." The song 'Untitled' even grabbed number 1 spots in all five categories on China's QQ music chart. While being interviewed in between performances at his concert, the rapper expressed, "I came to open this concert without any troubles thanks to you. So, I thank you once again."
'Kwon Ji Yong' is a musical autobiography of G-Dragon's personal life. The lyrics of the songs tell his struggles and character as he enters his 30's. According to G-Dragon, "Personally, it was a time to look back on me pondering over what is the true nature of myself and who this guy Kwon Ji Yong really is after many years of life under the stage name G-Dragon. It was a precious time that I realized what I did not know of myself and what I had forgotten."
