‘Produce 101’ Season 2 Episode 9: Updates, News & Spoilers
On the latest episode of Produce 101, which aired on June 2, we saw the remaining 35 trainees being regrouped for the next mission, which is the concept challenge. Last week, the trainees were divided into temporary groups prior to the 2nd elimination, but since several trainees have been booted off the show, the remaining contestants were again reshuffled into new groups. The teams with exces members had to remove people, who then will be absorbed by teams with fewer members. For the concept challenge, the 35 trainees divided into a total of 5 teams with 7 members.
Produce 101 asked the cooperation of several well-renowned producers in the industry to produce 5 original songs with different genres. Each track will have a different concept, which will be assigned to each of the 5 teams. In episode 9, we see all 5 teams perform their assigned songs. The first group, called 'It's' performed 'Showtime', which is a Nu Disco track. The group consists of trainees Kim Samuel, Noh Tae Hyun, Park Woo Dam, Ha Sung Woon, Lee Woo Jin, Kim Sang Gyun, and Yoon Ji Sung. The second group to perform was the team 'Monday-Tuesday Boys', which got the song 'I Know You Know', a synth-pop tune with a funky beat. This group had trainees Kim Tae Dong, Kwon Hyun Bin, Seo Sung Hyuk, Kim Yeh Hyun, Kim Dong Hyun, Kim Dong Han, and Jang Moon Bok.
Next up is team 'Knock' who performed 'Open Up', a Future EDM song. Team members include Kim Yong Guk, Kang Daniel, Kang Dong Ho, Yoo Seon Ho, Joo Hak Nyeon, Im Young Min, and Takada Kenta. They were followed up by team 'Slate', who was assigned hip-hop track 'Oh Little Girl'. The group members were Choi Min Ki, Lee Gun Hee, Jung Se Woon, Bae Jin Young, Ahn Hyung Seob, Lee Eui Woong, and Park Ji Hoon. The final group to perform was team 'National Sons', who performed deep house tune 'Never'. Trainees Hwang Min Hyun, Kim Jong Hyun, Kim Jae Hwan, Ong Sung Woo, Lee Dae Hwi, Park Woo Jin, and Lai Guan Lin consisted of the team.
The winning team for the concept challenge was team 'Knock' with 'Open Up', with members Kang Daniel and Kang Dong Ho getting the most votes. However, Produce 101 will announce the winner between the two next week, during the next vote rankings. As previously stated in episode 8, the winner will receive 10,000 votes while the rest of the team members will get 2,000 benefit votes. They will also have a chance to perform on next week's MCountdown. Meanwhile, it's still unknown when Produce 101 Season 2 will record their final episode.
