‘Produce 101 Season 2’ Fans Upset Over Rice Wreaths Given To NU’EST
Fans of Mnet's hit survival show 'Produce 101 Season 2' have found a new topic to be upset about - this time, however, it's not about something that happened during the program. International fans of the group NU'EST sent rice wreaths to the members, wishing them success in the show. However, this simple act of support enraged fans of 'Produce 101 Season 2'. According to online discussions, fans of the program are upset because it is not a NU'EST concert or event for them to send personal rice wreaths, but a platform where all trainees will be judged fairly and justly.
Another reason is that the rice wreaths bore messages that supported NU'EST as a whole, and not as individual members who are participating in the show. They argued that it shows support for NU'EST as a debuted group and not as a new group to be set up by the show. This adds salt to the wound as well, since fans have had an issue with NU'EST joining the program, to begin with. Netizens think it's unfair for a debuted group with an existing fanbase to join a survival show like 'Produce 101' that is meant for trainees who are desperate to debut.
Another issue that netizens had with the rice wreaths is that it had pictures of Aron, who is a NU'EST member, but not a participant of 'Produce 101 Season 2'. Only 4 members of the group are actively participating in the show - Dongho, Jonghyun, Min Ki and Minhyun. Aron opted not to join the show. Netizens commented, "I'm a fan of Pledis and NU'EST too but this just looks bad. Why do fans not take other trainees under consideration? And why did they even include Aron in the picture, he isn't even part of the show," and "Do they think this show is about picking new members for NU'EST or something?" Despite all this negativity, NU'EST members continue to do well on 'Produce 101 Season 2' with 3 of the boys securing places in the Top 11.
