iKON Fans Angry At YG For Comeback's Poor Chart Performance; iKON Explains Why They Were Put On Extended Break
iKON's much-awaited comeback album "New Kids: BEGIN" may be gaining good reviews online as their MVs for "Bling Bling" and "B-DAY" reach millions of views on youtube but fans have expressed disappointment that the talented K-pop group is not ranking well on the charts. Most of their fandom called iKONICs is blaming YG Entertainment for putting iKON on an extended break, which hindered the momentum of the group.
According to a report by Kpopstarz, fans are using the comment thread of the "Bling Bling" MV to air their dismay at YG's handling of iKON for the past year and rally fellow fans to promote their new tracks to perform better in the charts. "The reason why it doesn't chart well is because they have 0 appearances in South Korea for over one year. I hope YG can realize this problem like all iKONICs did, and treat them well, not just touring around," said one fan.
iKON acknowledged the fans' concerns and admitted that they took a longer break than most artists. Their comeback was a long time coming and they were not able to promote in Korea for an entire year, concentrating mostly in Japan. Because they took a long time to come out with their new album, iKON member Donghyuk said that they were also quite nervous about how they will be received back in Korea, Koreaboo reported.
However, they explained that it was a conscious move on the part of YG Entertainment to put their comeback on hold. They also said that in the year that passed, they were able to hone their skills in performing.
"It does not matter whether we are on a big or small stage, we can meet many fans," iKON said. "By listening to (YG boss) Yang Hyun Suk's advice, we were also surprised at how much we grew. It feels like iKON is complete now."
