‘Who is BTS?’ Tops Google Search Rankings After Billboard Music Awards

It seems like BTS' appearance and victory at the Billboard Music Awards are just the beginning of the group's entrance to the western music scene. Shortly after the boys captured the hearts of celebrities and international audience alike at the awards show, viewers who are unfamiliar with BTS or K-pop were left curious as to who these charming South Korean dudes were.

The question 'Who is BTS?' recently topped Google search rankings, following 'Who is Ariana Grande?' and 'Who is Drake dating?'. This is most likely the result of BTS winning the Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, beating out global superstars like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes. Viewers of the star-studded event became curious how the 7-member South Korean boy group beat such big names in the industry. They then flocked to the search engine to find out who BTS is.

Another factor that piqued non-fans' curiosity is the number of celebrities that tweeted and posted on social media about BTS during the Billboard Music Awards. Halsey, The Chainsmokers, Perez Hilton, and even Hollywood actor Ansel Elgort all acknowledged the boys and even posed for photos with the group.

Just recently, member Jin also got the world buzzing with his handsome looks. After a photo of the group posting at the magenta carpet-surfaced, it began circulating online with non-fans asking who the 'third one from the left' is. It turned out that the third guy from the left is none other than Jin. The oldest member then became viral, even becoming a trending topic on Twitter after gaining new fans, who initially had no idea who BTS was prior to the Billboard Music Awards.

This is a good sign that K-pop is slowly being properly introduced into the west. Though K-pop has a big international fan base and there have been previous attempts of K-pop idols breaking into the US music scene, this is the first time any idol group is being recognized by a major US music award show. Good job, BTS!
