This Xbox Live update reveals what kind of players populate Microsoft's premiere gaming service and why it is considered as the company's top priority. With such an ever-expanding player database, it's easy to see why Microsoft's service is being regarded as one of the most popular gaming networks on the market.

However, some might wonder what exactly are the types of people who use Microsoft's gaming network. Fortunately for those pondering about that question, a recently revealed Xbox Live update reveals just that.

According to GameSpot, recent statistics shows the responses of 2,000 Xbox Live account users. This data can give an idea of which group the majority of players belong to as well as their brief personal backgrounds.

The Xbox Live update reveals that majority of the users are between the age of 25 to 34. The majority of the players in the data are living with their significant other while only 23 percent live with their parents. There's a whopping 53 percent of Xbox Live users who use the service for "Socializing" purposes, followed by the 49 percent of those who prefer "Exploring." The smallest portion of gamers are the ones who use the service for "Achievement" purposes.

Lastly, the Xbox Live update data reveals that the male population is once again dominating Microsoft's gaming platform with 58 percent of users being male, compared to the network's 42 percent female population. This statistic will aid Microsoft in knowing the type of people that they need to be catering to.

After all, the company is prioritizing the Xbox Live platform over their physical Xbox One console. According to VB, Xbox chief Phil Spencer stressed the importance of Xbox Live to the company.

Spencer explained that the significance of focusing on the Xbox Live update was due to the fact that the gaming network is responsible for sparking consumer interest. "We realized that obviously the number one asset that we have is our customers, and the engagement that they put into our network that is Xbox Live.", Spencer added. With that said, it's clear that the focus on expanding the Xbox Live services will steadily increase in the months to come.
