May 13th, 2017: This massive Lion is the work of sculptor Dengding Rui Yao and team. The sculpture is named the Oriental Lion and it took 20 people more than 3 years to complete it. The lion has been carved out of a huge redwood trunk. The sculpture is now located in Fortune Plaza Times Square Wuhan, China's Hubei Province.

Dengding Rui Yao and his team first started work on the sculptor in Myanmar. The construction was then moved to China covering a 3000-mile journey in December 2015. The giant structure of the lion is 47.5 feet long, 16.5 feet high and 13 feet wide. The lion sculpture is the largest Redwood Sculpture in the world.

The source of the tree is unknown and we can only speculate whether the wood was taken from a dying tree or not. Either way, we hope a tree did not have to lose its life in order to enhance the aesthetics of the city.

Lion as an animal has a huge significance in the Chinese culture. Often Lion statues and sculptors are used at the entrances of palaces and temples in an attempt to ward off evil spirits. Installed in the city of Wuhan in the Hubei Province, the Oriental Lion has become a popular monument in the city.
