X-Men Spin-Off 'New Mutants' Will Cast 'Game Of Thrones' Star Maisie Williams And Anya Taylor-Joy of 'Split'
May 13th, 2017: Fans have been waiting for the X-men spinoff: New Mutants, for quite some time now. Thankfully, the studio has begun casting for the movie and two big and prominent names have been already signed.
The ensemble superhero movie is directed by Josh Boone and has signed on Anya Taylor Joy as well as Maisie Williams. Maisie Williams stars in the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones as Arya Stark. Anya Taylor-Joy, on the other hand, has been the face of M. Night Shyamalan's latest hit Split and the witch.
Produced by Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt, the movie is headed for an early star in July. The script has been written by Josh Boone himself along with assistance from his writing partner Knate Gwaltney. "New Mutants" was the first comic spin-off that stemmed from the X-men series in the 1980s. Created by Bob McLeod and Chris Claremont, "New Mutants" was quite a hit amongst fans.
The movie focuses on the adventures of a diverse group of teens and the misfortunes they have to face. This group includes native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, and Magik a Russian teen. There will also be an alien among them to mix things up.
Anya Taylor Joy is set to play Magik while Maisie Williams will play Wolfsbane. The studio had been eyeing the two since last year but was only able to pull the trigger this summer. The movie as of now is set for a release date of 13th April 2018 and it would be interesting to see how these two acclaimed actresses add to the appeal of the X-men spinoff: New Mutants.
