The recently concluded Microsoft Education event had techies musing with the company's announcement of their Surface Laptop. With impressive specs and design, the new lappy is indeed best suited for Microsoft's target market.

The event on May 2 ushered in the Microsoft Surface Laptop whose target market are students who are currently or about to enter college life. Also, reports suggest that the ultraportable is all prepped up to be pitted against Apple's thin profiled MacBook Airs and the top specced Pros.

Panos Panay, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President, sat down with CNET stating that a college student's next four years of studying is where they want to set their crosshairs on adding that they want to devise a product to get them through the challenges of college life and went on saying that they wanted students to have a product where they could "have so much confidence in."

Under the Surface Laptop's hood is a preloaded Windows 10 S operating system which is somewhat of a trimmed down variant of the mentioned OS. Additionally, the laptop will be buffed up with the seventh generation of Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors. Panay even claimed that their new device will be 50 percent quicker than the above-mentioned MacBook Air.

Just like its Apple counterpart, the new Surface laptop will be sleek and lightweight not to mention its Alcantara-covered keyboard. Its base renders, on the other hand, will have a decent 4GB of random access memory (RAM), a Core i5 SoC, and a solid state drive amounting to 128GB, according to Trusted Reviews. The only noticeable con though is the absence of a USB Type-C port.

Furthermore, the publication stated that the Surface Laptop will have a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with touchscreen capabilities. In line with this, the device will also have Intel's integrated graphics processor. The basic iteration of the laptop will have a price tag amounting to $999 while the top-end version will be at $2,199.

The Surface Laptop is currently in pre-order status and will be released on June 15. Check out a video about the new Microsoft lappy here:
