For the past few months, Microsoft has been totally silent regarding the next version of the highly anticipated 2-in-1 tablet dubbed by many as the Surface Pro 5. According to the latest reports, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 should be a high priority for Microsoft now since it has just unveiled that Company's Surface hybrid sales have declined over the last few months.
Microsoft has recently reported its earnings for the quarter ended March 31 and known a 26 percent drop in Surface revenue. Here are a few probable reasons why that happened.
First, Microsoft's new Surface Book with Performance Base and Surface Studio are too expensive and cost at least a couple of thousand dollars. They're designed for professionals who are willing to spend a lot of money for a computer, not for the everyday general user.
Another reason for the drop in revenue could be the drop in prices. One of the primary reasons behind the decline has been the discounts on prices of Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, according to Tech News Gazette.
It's the Surface Pro hybrid which is most appealing to the consumer. It's no wonder that Microsoft blamed slower Surface sales on "lower than expected Surface Pro unit volume," on a call with CNBC.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that the market has become highly competitive. And since Microsoft's devices carry a premium price tag, Surface revenues have suffered a lot. With this several reports claim that this is the time to bring back company's revenue by introducing a much-loved successor to the Surface Pro series i.e. Surface Pro 5.
The speculations and rumors suggest that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released in fall. Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 Cloud on May 2 in an event and possibly new hardware which runs the new Windows 10 variant and if that actually happens, Redmond will effectively be facilitating new participants of its Surface Pro and Surface Book devices.
