'The Fast and the Furious' Spinoff: New Movie Is Happening Before 'Fast and Furious' Film Premiere

Only a few days after “The Fate of the Furious” smashed records at the box office over its hit opening weekend, it has been confirmed that “The Fast and The Furious” spinoff will be in the works at Universal Pictures. Characters played by Jason Statham, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Charlize Theron will be featured in the future spinoff.

As reported by E! News, a source confirmed to their news outlet that the highly-anticipated “The Fast and the Furious” spinoff will turn up soon. Variety also noted that series architect Chris Morgan is set to write the script. However, Statham, Johnson and Theron have not yet committed to any plans.

Shortly after the release of “The Fate of the Furious,” Theron shared her sentiments over the huge commercial success of the franchise, raking in $529 million in global ticket sales within a single weekend. "I am so humbled to just have the smallest little part in all of this," she said. "I thank you everybody at Universal and the “Fast and Furious” family." The actress, however, did not share any plans relating to “The Fast and the Furious” spinoff.

When asked if she is set to return to the ninth movie of the highly successful franchise, Theron did show her excitement with the possibility. For the other “Fate of the Furious” cast members, they have also expressed their gratitude towards fans who have shown continual support since the franchise began in 2001. "Biggest global box office opening of all time and the most fun, get the job done, s--t talkin' character I've ever played. THANK YOU," Johnson wrote on Instagram. “The Fast and the Furious” spin-off, which is expected to be centered on the unexpected bond between Johnson's federal agent character Luke Hobbs and villain-turned-ally Decker Shaw, played by Statham, would be released before “The Fast and the Furious 9” makes a premiere.
