With the final episode of A&E's "Bates Motel" just around the corner, fans are wondering what would become of the infamous Norman Bates. While "Psycho" ended with Norman behind bars for the death of Marion Crane, fans are wondering if Norman will die via death penalty in the Bates Motel series finale.

Based on the minute-long trailer for Bates Motel series finale entitled "The Cord," the series flashes back to key events in the show's five-season run. It shows the murders that Norman has committed and his realization that his mother is dead. The trailer also teases a portion of Psycho's infamous shower scene and Norman's interaction with his mother Norma.

Fans will definitely anticipate the final showdown in the "Bates Motel" series finale between Norman and Sheriff Alex Carbonell, after the latter swore revenge against Norma's son for the death of his wife. His brother Dylan may also resort to extreme measures to stop him from further hurting more people as his psychosis grows worse. Unfortunately for the two characters, Norman's mental illness seems to have worsened to the level that he will stop at nothing to accomplish what he believed was his mother's wishes.

According to showrunner Kerry Ehrin, while the show took inspiration from the 1960 film "Psycho", it doesn't necessarily mean that the show will follow what happens in the movie. He said that while fans believe that the proper ending for Norman would be death, the show is not guaranteeing that it will follow that path in the Bates Motel series finale, reported Entertainment Weekly.

"We are not doing Psycho. We go through Psycho," she clarified about the "Bates Motel" series finale. "Psycho visits us, let me put it that way. We're definitely doing our own ending of Bates Motel."

Ehrin said that viewers who have followed the series for the past 49 episodes should definitely tune into the finale as they will definitely go out big. The "Bates Motel" series finale will air on A&E at 10 pm on Monday.
